The art of paper quilling
T&R Creations is a tag team of two sisters, Tariro and Rutendo. Their mother taught them how to make paper beads amongst many other crafts. Starting out by making beaded necklaces for friends and family, this grew to a new found love for all things paper. Each day brings new discoveries of upcycling newspaper, magazines and cardboard boxes into forms of reusable art. It’s amazing the sort of things you can make from paper!
Quilling is a technique of coiling strips of paper and shaping it into different designs. The paper is then treated with a non-toxic varnish, stiffening and waterproofing the paper from unravelling and protecting it from moisture and humidity. The range includes jewellery and décor items such as bowls, platters, wall hangings, bowls, picture frames, serviette holders and coasters. T&R Creations also make a range of bags from off-cuts of African and shwe shwe print material which is sewn into tote bags , cosmetic bags and their little ANYTHING bag. During Crafts Alive, Tariro and Rutendo are offering a paper quilling crafting activity, so come and try your hand that this fascinating craft!
